Learn how to make sourdough gluten-free starter from scratch

Dear Sourdoughmaniac,

I’m Anita Šumer and I’m a soudough enthusiast, author of several international award-winning cookbooks and a sourdough baker for over 10 years. My mission is to bring sourdough baking into as many homes as possible
in a simple and easy way that doesn’t take much time or effort.

I’m delighted that you want to make your first gluten-free sourdough starter.
Let me show you how easy it is!

WHY DO I RECOMMEND GLUTEN-FREE SOURDOUGH BAKING?

Sourdough bread is much better and healthier than bread made with regular yeast. However, even sourdough bread contains gluten, which poses a significant problem for people with thyroid issues, gluten sensitivity, wheat allergies, or celiac disease.

Most bakery and store-bought products contain gluten, which can be found in wheat, barley, rye, spelt, and kamut grains. Oats are not recommended in the diet of individuals with celiac disease. Gluten is also present in various cookies, pastries, and other foods. Nowadays, stores typically offer gluten-free options, but they are often expensive or contain other unhealthy ingredients.

Baking bread can be very simple. Whether you avoid gluten due to celiac disease, have a family member with celiac disease, or simply feel better without consuming gluten… there is nothing better than homemade bread because you know exactly what goes into it.
